Explaining the Ascension to Catholic Children

The-Ascension-for-Catholic-Kids

40 days after Easter, we remember the day Jesus ascended into Heaven!

On the day of the Ascension, Jesus and his disciples gathered for a long time. This would be the last time they would all be together, as Jesus was soon taken up into the clouds and disappeared into Heaven.

When Jesus ascended, he told his disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit to come upon them. They waited and prayed for 9 days. (This was the first novena! A novena is 9 days of prayer.)

This seems like a day that would be sad, but it’s not at all! When Jesus ascended, two angels came to the disciples to let them know Jesus will come again! During this time of waiting, we are not alone.

Jesus himself said “Behold, I will be with you always, to the end of the age.”

It’s important to remind children that Jesus is always with them, even if they can’t see them. Similar to living far apart from grandparents. Even though your children can’t see them, they know that their Grandparents love them and they will see them soon.

Jesus always keeps his promises and will see your children soon!
