Why do Catholics confess to a priest?
In James 5:16, God commands us to “confess our sins to one another.”
Scripture does not say confess your sins only to God. It says confess your sins to one another.
In Matthew 9:6, Jesus tells us that He was given authority on Earth to forgive sins.
God sent Jesus with the authority to forgive sins. Now, Jesus sends out His disciples as the Father has sent Him.
Jesus calls us to realize our sin, to repent of it, and to be reconciled with God and our neighbors
We go to confession because it is a Sacrament given to us by God.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation washes away sin and gives us strength to avoid that sin again.
This sacrament is so important, the Church has even mandated its practice!
The more we love the Lord, the more we are aware of the smallest sins.
Have you been to confession lately?
