The Presentation of the Lord for Kids

Today is the Presentation of the Lord! According to Jewish Law, if the firstborn child was a boy, the infant would be given, or consecrated, to God.

But Jesus is the True God! Why would he need to be consecrated to himself?

This was hard for the Holy Family. They trusted God, but they did not understand what he said to them.

Joseph and Mary clung to their faith and did everything according to God’s Law.

While they were waiting in line to present Jesus, a holy old man named Simeon came to them.

Simeon tells Mary that Jesus will suffer, and  she will suffer along with him.

But Mary was not afraid; she said yes to God.

(This would really scare me, but not beautiful Mary! She took what Simeon said in stride, putting all of her own thoughts aside and choosing to say yes to God anyways, despite this man’s warning.)

Despite being told of the pain she would go through, Mary still presented Jesus in the Temple.

Mary did not know what her entire role in God’s plan would be, but she chose to say yes and to put everything else aside.

Today, we are called to put aside our personal desires. Ask Mary to pray for us, so that we may come to love and serve Jesus just as she did!
