The Most Holy Trinity is one of the more complex concepts to teach to children. I’d argue it’s one of the harder concepts even for adults to understand! Using the explanation, symbolism and Holy Trinity craft below, you can give your kids a more clear picture on what the Holy Trinity is all about.
What Are the Three Components of the Holy Trinity?
There is one God, and within this God there are three Divine parts: The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. But there are not three Gods. All three components make up the Holy Trinity! When we make the sign of the Cross, you are addressing the three different points that make up God-The Father, The Son and Holy Spirit.
An Apple – A Simple Way to Explain the Holy Trinity to Children
An apple is a wonderful way to explain the different components of the Holy Trinity to children. The skin acts as the Father since he protects us, the flesh acts as the Son because he became human flesh, and the seeds act as the Holy Spirit because they help us grow in our Faith! They are all different parts, but all three of them make up the entire apple. It’s a very simple explanation, but works great for when you don’t have a lot of time to dedicate to an entire lesson.
More Symbols of the Holy Trinity
One of the best known symbols of the Holy Trinity is the shamrock. Another symbol is a triangle, with all three corners representing one of the three parts of the Trinity. (Notice when we make the Sign of the Cross we are making a triangle across our bodies!) The letters “tri” mean three, so words that have “tri” in them like tricycle and trio are made up of three elements, just like the word Trinity.
Easy Holy Trinity Craft
On the hunt for trinity craft ideas? This bracelet is a great way to show how all three beings in God are connected in a continuous circle.
All you need besides the printable template are:
- Scissors
- Tape or Glue (optional)
I adapted Krokotak’s Paper Bracelet Craft, and created a Trinity craft for kids based off their instructions. Here is their graphic on how to create the bracelet. (They used glue, but honestly I didn’t end up needing tape or glue for any of it, it sort of just held itself together.)
1.) Print out your Holy Trinity Bracelet Craft template. (I also have a green version and a purple version too!) Cut out the square along the outside dotted lines.
2.) Turn your square so it’s in the shape of a diamond, with all the words facing up.
3.) Grab your bottom corner, and bring it up to meet the words, but DON’T FOLD ALL THE WAY UP. Make sure all the words are still visible by leaving space above your corner.
4.) Flip your paper over.
5.) Grab the bottom, and fold up half an inch or so to the dotted line so that the words “Father” are visible in both corners.
6.) Continue folding in this manner, every half inch or so, until you get to the top.
7. At this point you should have a skinny line of paper with the words “Father,” “Son,” and “Holy Spirit” repeated down it. You can put a little tape on the top corner to hold it in place.
8.) Bend into a bracelet shape.
9.) Tuck one of the ends into the other to make the bracelet stay together. If needed, a little tape will seal the deal.
And there you go! How cute, right?! And so easy!
I made this one yesterday and couldn’t take it off. Such a good reminder. If you want to make yours really snazzy, you could even print out the template on colored paper, or make multiple bracelets of different colors!
I hope you enjoyed this Holy Trinity craft for kids. Let me know how it goes! Have a beautiful and holy, Holy Trinity Sunday. 🙂
