The world needs a lot of things, but one thing I can say for certain is: The world needs more Catholic books for kids!
My personal library is stuffed with Catholic books for adults, but what about kids? There are definitely some good ones, but there can NEVER be enough Catholic goodness out there, especially when it comes to raising our children.
There’s just something about reading books to our children about their baptism or different saints that really resonate with them. They see mainstream cartoon characters all day long, and being able to integrate aspects of our Catholic faith into their lives as well makes it more real to them.
So, without further ado, below are four really great books for Catholic books for families.
1.) Washed Clean-A Child’s First Baptism Book
“Discover the richness and beauty of the sacrament of baptism, through this colorful book for young children and their parents!”
I absolutely love baptisms. I’d even go as far to say I love them more than birthdays. Sure being born is fun, but what about being born into God’s family?!
Written by Joyful Little Catholics, this baptism board book is perfect for little hands, and the rhyming words keep little ears (and brains!) engaged.
2.) Audacious Ignatius
“Jump into the life of audacious St. Ignatius with this beautiful children’s book. Follow him through his conversion, the development of the Spiritual Exercises and the founding of the Society of Jesus.”
This book is absolutely adorable. I love that it introduces kids to a few “larger” vocabulary words that rhyme with “Ignatius” (even I learned some!) such as “ostentatious” and “flirtatious.” The book is written in rhymes so once again, keeps little brains engaged.
Written by Paul Mitchell, it tells about Ignatius’ life in a really down-to-Earth, relatable way. 100% recommend! You can also follow @AudaciousIgnatius on Instagram.
3.) My Catholic Keepsake-A Catholic Child’s Memory Book
I’ve been on the hunt for SO LONG trying to find a baby memory book, that’s also Catholic, and that’s not super overwhelming.
We have 5 kids and while their baby books are okay, a lot of it isn’t filled out because it’s just too excessive. No, I don’t know the exact day their left, bottom molar came through, but let me tell you all about how much they weighed when they were born and their first Mass. (You know, the important stuff.)
This book highlights all the important things, and leaves out all the not-so-important things, with plenty of pages for all their sacraments and Catholic-related milestones!
This is the softcover version, but there is a hardcover version available as well at ThyOliveTree.com
4.) Elizabeth Clare’s Catholic Planner
Okay, so this last ones not for kids. It’s for the moms of the kids. (Which is important too!) We need to keep our lives organized so our kids can have organized, faith-filled lives too!
Not only does this planner include space for your day-to-day activities, Elizabeth Clare steps it up a notch by including feast days, fasting days, days of abstinence, ember days, rogation days and vigils! Elizabeth is a Catholic mom who is just amazing at creating planners. She has a ton of different options!
I also love that each week has Sunday’s readings and novena trackers.
But this might be my favorite part-all the prayers of the rosary and HOW to pray the rosary is also included in the back pages! Talk about a life saver! As a convert, my rosary skills are not very strong, so I truly appreciate this little “cheat sheet.”
So there you have it, a few great Catholic books for kids (and one for mom!) all wrapped up in a neat little post. I hope you have a beautiful day!
