Holy Trinity for Kids + Catholic St. Patrick’s Day Activity

Having trouble explaining how one God is made up of three different parts? One way to picture this Holy Trinity is with a shamrock!

Keep reading for a Holy Trinity activity!

There is one God, and within this God there are three Divine parts: The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. But there are not three Gods. All three components make up the Holy Trinity!

The letters “tri” mean three, so words that have “tri” in them like tricycle and trio are made up of three elements, just like the word Trinity.

For an easy hands-on activity, our family “colored” a shamrock with green-colored rice. Don’t be intimidated by dyeing rice. It is SUPER easy and low-stress.

Pretty, huh?

Here’s how to create your own:

  1. Pour 2 cups of rice into a plastic zip-lock baggie. Pour in 1 tsp of green food coloring and 2 tsps of hand sanitizer (the hand sanitizer helps the rice dry quickly.)
  2.  Shake baggie up, spreading green coloring all around.
  3. Lay rice out onto a tray to dry. Ours was dry to the touch in 20 minutes!
  4. Draw a large shamrock onto white paper, labeling each leaf “Father,” “Son,” and “Holy Spirit.”
  5. Have your children dip a paintbrush into glue and spread glue all over their shamrock.
  6. Pour colored rice all over the glue.
  7. Once dry, shake excess rice into the trash can.
